Our shop is on Ganttown Road in Turnersville — inside Washington Township. This is not a service area for us; it is where we are. Liberi Fence is a third-generation, family-owned fence company, and Washington Township is the town our crews drive through on the way to every other job in South Jersey. If you are planning a fence here, the first thing to know is that the Township requires a zoning permit for it, and depending on the project you may need a construction permit as well.
Washington Township's Planning and Zoning office handles fence approvals, and its guidance is direct: residential improvements including fences, patios, pools and decks require a zoning permit and may also require a construction permit. The application used is the Residential Zoning Permit Application, and the Township offices are at 523 Egg Harbor Road in Sewell.
Two practical points follow from that.
We confirm what applies to your address before the job is scheduled, and we handle the paperwork as part of the project rather than leaving it with you.
Permit requirements summarised from the Washington Township Planning and Zoning office, current as of August 2026. Height limits and setbacks are set in the Township zoning code and vary by yard and zoning district — confirm yours with the Township before ordering material, and we will confirm it with you at the estimate. This is a summary, not legal advice.
Height is the question everyone asks first, but placement is what actually gets fences rejected. Three things decide it.
| What governs it | Why it matters here |
|---|---|
| Which yard the segment is in | Front, side and rear yards carry different standards. Across Gloucester County generally, rear and side yards allow taller fencing than front yards — so the same fence can be compliant along one boundary and not another. |
| Sight triangles at intersections | On corner lots, the Township restricts anything that blocks a driver's or pedestrian's view near the intersection. That applies to fences, walls and plantings alike, and it overrides the yard-type rule. |
| Easements and setbacks | Drainage and utility easements commonly run along rear and side lot lines in Township subdivisions. The property line and the buildable fence line are frequently not the same, which is why a current survey matters. |
Corner lots deserve a specific warning. Washington Township has a lot of them — it is the largest municipality in Gloucester County by population, built out over decades across Turnersville, Sewell, Grenloch and Blackwood, with a street pattern that produces plenty of corners. If your lot has two street frontages, assume the placement rules are tighter than your neighbour's and get it checked before you plan the run.
We have set posts across this township for a long time, and a few things come up repeatedly.
If your posts move when you push on them, the fence is telling you something. Panels bolted to a failing post fail again with it, so a repair on a rotted post line is money spent twice. The test we use is simple: sound posts mean sections can usually be repaired, and failed posts mean replacement.
Two things specific to replacing here. A zoning permit still applies — putting an identical fence back on the same line is not automatically exempt, so confirm before assuming. And on lots where the original fence went in thirty or forty years ago, the old footings are frequently tangled in tree roots that have grown around them, which is why pulling them properly matters more than it would on open ground. Our full guide to fence replacement in South Jersey covers the process, including storm damage and insurance claims.
Choosing between the two most common options? Our comparison of vinyl versus wood for a South Jersey home covers the trade-off, and how long a South Jersey fence lasts sets expectations by material. Prefer to build it yourself? We sell materials direct with DIY fence kits and free delivery within 200 miles — and being local, Washington Township deliveries are about as short a run as we make.
Yes. The Township's Planning and Zoning office states that residential improvements including fences require a zoning permit, and that a construction permit may also be required depending on the project. The form is the Residential Zoning Permit Application, filed with the Township at 523 Egg Harbor Road, Sewell. We confirm what your specific project needs before scheduling.
Often, yes. A fence acting as a pool barrier is a safety structure under the state Uniform Construction Code as well as a zoning matter, so a construction permit can be required on top of the zoning permit — meaning two applications and an inspection. That barrier also has to meet state requirements including self-closing and self-latching gate hardware.
Height limits are set in the Township zoning code and depend on which yard the fence is in and your zoning district — rear and side yards generally allow more height than front yards. Because the limit varies by property, confirm your number with the Township's zoning office rather than assuming a county-wide figure. We check it as part of the estimate.
Yes, and they are the most restricted properties in the township. Sight triangles at intersections limit what can be built near the corner so drivers and pedestrians can see each other, and that restriction applies on top of the normal yard rules. If your lot fronts two streets, get the placement confirmed before planning the run.
Yes — repairs, full replacements, and upgrades across every fence type we install. Whether a repair or a replacement is the right call comes down to the posts: sound posts can usually carry a section repair, failed posts cannot.
The install itself is usually short for a residential run. The schedule is set by what comes first — the New Jersey One Call utility markout requires three full business days' notice by state law, and the Township permit runs on its own timeline. Material availability matters too; in-stock material generally moves within a few business days. We give you a realistic window at the estimate.
Yes. Our shop is at 141 Ganttown Road in Turnersville, inside the township. That is not a satellite office or a service radius — it is where the trucks are loaded. For Washington Township jobs it means short runs, easy return visits, and a crew that already knows the roads and the ground conditions.
We walk the property line with you, check your survey for easements and setbacks, confirm what the Township requires for your address, and give you an itemized estimate covering removal, materials and labor — at no cost and with no obligation. We are a few minutes away.

We recently hired Liberi Fence to install a new fence around our property, and while no project is ever without its hiccups, their team went above and beyond to make sure everything was done right. From the start, their communication was clear and professional. They helped us choose the right materials and design to suit both our needs and budget. During installation, a few unexpected issues came up (none of which were their fault), but what really impressed us was how they handled it. Instead of making excuses or cutting corners, they stepped up—offering smart solutions, keeping us informed every step of the way, and even putting in extra time to ensure the final result was flawless. The workmanship is top-notch—the fence looks fantastic and feels incredibly sturdy. But more than that, it's rare to find a company that shows this level of integrity, accountability, and customer care. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Liberi Fence to anyone looking for quality work from people who genuinely care about what they do. A+ experience!Posted on Google![]()
